Robert B. Meaders was born in 1946. Raised in Staten Island, he was the
youngest of 11 siblings. He grew up in the Mariners Harbor section of Staten
Island, graduating from Public School 44 and Port Richmond High School. After
graduating high school, Mr. Meaders followed four of his older brothers into military service (two joined the Navy, one the Army, and another the Marine Corps) by joining the U.S. Air Force where he
obtained the rank of Sergeant.

He was an Aircraft Maintenance Specialist during his time in the service, completing a tour of duty in Vietnam. During his service in the Air Force, Mr. Meaders received 3 awards – a National Defense Service Medal, a Vietnam Service Medal, and the Air Force Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged in 1968.

While serving in the Air Force, Mr. Meaders married Bettie J. Williams in 1966. In 1970, they had one child, a daughter, Leigh M. Meaders, Esq. After leaving the Air Force, Mr. Meaders, like four of his older brothers before him, joined the New York City Police Department. He worked out of the 5th precinct (Chinatown - Manhattan). While a member of the New York City Police Department, he obtained his bachelor’s degree from the College of Staten Island.

He retired from the NYPD in 1981. Mr. Meaders enjoyed traveling and photography. He was an avid motorcycle rider and league bowler. He coached girls and boys intramural and CYO basketball at St. Roch’s School. He was a life-long, active member of All Saints’ Episcopal Church on Staten Island, serving several terms on its vestry.

Robert B. Meaders died on June 30, 1997, at the age of 51.
