Richard Gust Blomquist

Richard was born September 3, 1989 on Staten Island, New York. He attended PS 19, IS 27 and Curtis High School. While in high school, Richard was part of the ROTC, on the track team and worked as a lifeguard for the YMCA.

He always dreamed of being in the military and making a difference. Upon graduating Curtis High School he immediately enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and trained at Base Camp Lejeune. During his eleven-year career in the Marines, Richard served in the Artillery Unit and the Mortars Unit. He answered the call of duty on five deployments which are: Haiti Earthquake Relief 2010, Okinawa 2011, Afghanistan War 2013, and two Black Sea Rotations in 2015 and 2017.

He married Leighann Roldan from his hometown of Staten Island in 2016. After Richard left the Marines he and Leighann relocated, eventually settling in New Orleans. His first job there was for the Department of Corrections, Juvenile Detention. He continues his life of service today as a New Orleans, Louisiana Firefighter.

They have two children, Jackson and Sofia. He enjoys time with his wife and children, riding motorcycles, shooting at the range, and connecting with his Marine Corps buddies. Richard is a member of the Wounded Warrior Project.
