Frank J. Mango

1940-1943

Frank .J. Mango enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1940 and served in the 44th Division, 114th Infantry under the command of Col. Norman Schwarzkopf Sr. of the Western Defense Command in Fort Lewis, Washington, until his honorable discharge in 1943.

Upon returning home, he worked in the Bethlehem Steel Shipyard as a riveter - ship fitter as part of the war effort.
Born and raised in Port Richmond (Bennet Street and Harrison Avenue), he married his Rosebank Sweetheart, Helen Violet Brusco. They bought a home in Port Richmond (LaForge Avenue - 65 years) and raised 3 children in St. Roch Parish. Helen and Frank were blessed with 8 grandchildren, and so far, 11 great grandchildren.

Frank was a member of the Cichon Post American Legion (but he didn’t stay for the beer and sandwiches). Frank volunteered at St. Vincent’s Hospital for 26 years. St.Roch Holy Name Society, Assumption Counsel Knights of Columbus., Friends of St. Vincent’s, The Bruno-Paulo Retreat Band at Mount Manresa were among his favorite community organizations.

Frank went home to God on July 16, 2006 at the age of 93.
