His talents were quickly recognized and he was promoted to the district office, where he ultimately was selected as the Community Superintendent. Following his retirement as Superintendent in 2003, the Cugini family was honored to participate in the naming ceremony of P.S. 20 as the Christy J. Cugini School.

In 2011, Mr. Cugini was inducted into the Port Richmond High School Hall of Fame in recognition of his lifelong service to the community.
